Man shot at, four beaten up for stopping truck

-

NEWDELHI:A 25-year-old man was allegedly shot at and four of his aides thrashed in south Delhi’s Shanti Kunj area late on Wednesday night for objecting to a truck passing through their residential colony , police said.

Police said that the locals of Shanti Kunj were unwilling to allow the heavy truck loaded with construction material pass as the road had been constructed after collecting money from the residents. A heavy truck could damage the road, they feared.

The incident took place on Church Road near Shanti Kunj around 11 pm on Wednesday. One of the victims, Harpal, told the police that he had noticed the truck taking the colony road.

“When Harpal objected to it, the truck owner Vinod Khatri began abusing and threatening him,” said Chinmoy Biswal, additional DCP (South).

The argument took an ugly turn and Khatri then allegedly called around 15 men to the spot, who were armed with sticks, rods and guns. The men then began thrashing Harpal. Harpal raised an alarm, alerting his neighbours and tenants .

The people who rushed to Harpal’s help were thrashed and even fired on .

By the time the assailants fled, one Naresh Mahato had received a bullet to his foot and four others were left bleeding with injuries to their heads and limbs.

Police said they received a call from the locals after which a team was rushed to the spot.

No one had been arrested till the filing of this report on Thursday.
