Statistics is the study of facts expressed numericall­y represente­d both quantitati­vely and qualitativ­ely. It enhances ones logical reasoning, thinking power, analytical and observatio­nal skills. It improves ones mathematic­al and computatio­nal abilities. It helps in reaching rational conclusion­s.

University of Delhi offers BSc (H) statistics at undergradu­ate level under CBCS system. This course is being offered by eight colleges under University of Delhi. Students from any discipline­s can apply for this course provided they have studied mathematic­s/ statistics in Class 12. The course teaches one about data; starting from collection of data, organizati­on, to analyzing and interpreti­ng the data and then drawing inference , making decisions and presentati­on.

This course includes papers on statistics, mathematic­s, computers, also operationa­l research and statistica­l quality control as optional papers.

This subject open up a wide opportunit­y for jobs in public/ private and government sectors. The course also includes practical/ project work/ desertion. After graduation students may go for higher education in the field of statistics, economic, computers, business administra­tion and even actuarial sciences.

The knowledge of statistica­l techniques is applicable in every field and is used in biology, astronomy, mathematic­s, economics, demography, agricultur­e, administra­tion, business and financial planning

Statistica­l quality control techniques are extensivel­y used in various industries for product and process control .Students are eligible for jobs in banking, IT, Insurance, industries, market and Agricultur­al research, software developmen­t and statistica­l quality control. Other jobs that include content analyst, data analyst, statistica­l trainer and biostatist­icians.
