A SON’S JOURNEY

The film ‘Rail Truck’ revolves around the widow Yumiko and her sons. Yumiko sets off for her in-laws’ home with her husband’s ashes along with her two sons. Setting out on a journey aboard an old-fashioned hand-powered ‘rail truck’, Atsushi, the eldest son, discovers a world outside of his family and his school, and is forced to confront the question of what it means to be both an elder brother and a son.

LITERARY SPAIN

As part of the ‘Literature and Thinking’ series, Instituto Cervantes presents a dramatised reading, ‘The Counter-Histories of Augusto Roa Bastos’, on one of Paraguay’s best known writers of the 20th century. Bastos is best known for his complex novel ‘I, The Supreme’ and for winning the Cervantes Prize in 1989, Spanish literature’s most prestigiou­s prize. Bastos’ canon includes novels , poems, screenplay­s.

MIXED BEATS

Enjoy the music of this duo – Sukhmani Malik and Hari Singh – at an evening full of folktronic­a and fusion music and a mix of traditiona­l Punjabi folk tunes with electronic­a beats. While Sukhmani is a classicall­y trained musician, Hari Singh is a producer, vocalist and audio engineer. The duo has also collaborat­ed with internatio­nal artists. They count famous Sufi poets such as Bulleh Shah, Baba Farid, Kabir and Shah Hussain among their inspiratio­ns.
