Govt releases list of empanelled solar panel firms

Confused over which company to approach to get a solar panel installed on your rooftop? Worry not as the Delhi government has released a list of empanelled companies .

The list available at the power department’s website offers 70 companies from whom residents can get solar panels installed. The move comes after the government received a number of complaints about Chinese companies selling spurious parts at dead cheap prices.

“On many occasions people complained of the system malfunctioning within months of being installed. The list provides genuine companies who shall provide appropriate warranty period and servicing,” a power department official said.

The department is still accepting registrations from people who want to get a rooftop solar system. “A resident can visit www.power.delhi.gov.in for registration. Scanned copies of the forms should be sent by email or in person,” the official added.

While the government started accepting registrations in April, it has received about 90 applications so far. “We expected a better response. However, now we are increasing our awareness campaigns through advertisements,” another official said.

To encourage more people to use green energy, the Delhi government is going to conduct a series of meetings with residents’ welfare associations .
