Sudden bursts of rain, like the ones which lashed the city over the weekend, continued on Monday. The weather is likely to stay the same on Tuesday, too, MeT officials said.

“We are expecting similar rains for another day. Intermittent rains lashed Delhi on Saturday, Sunday and in some areas on Monday. Between 8.30 am on Sunday and 8.30 am on Monday, the city received about 14.6 mm rain,” said a senior official of the regional weather forecasting centre in New Delhi.

MeT experts said that a ‘twin system’ was behind the rainy spell. “While on the one hand, a cyclonic circulation has developed over Rajasthan, on the other hand, the monsoon trough is located in the Delhi-NCR area. These two systems are together attracting a lot of moisture laden winds from the east which in turn are triggering rains in Delhi,” said the official. During the day, however, the 1.7 mm rain was recorded, he said.

According to Tuesday’s forecast, generally cloudy sky with thunder and lightning is likely. The maximum and minimum temperatures will remain around 35 and 27 degrees, respectively.

“On Monday, the maximum temperature was 33.4 degrees, a notch below normal. The minimum temperature was 26.5 degrees, also a point below what it normal for this time of the year.

It was a humid day with humidity levels oscillating between 97% and 66%.

According to the MeT official, after Tuesday there isn’t any possibility of showers for two more days. “After July 25, there won’t be any rain on 26 and 27. However, on July 28 night, it will rain again and will continue on July 29 and 30 too,” he said.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 34.6 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, while the minimum settled at 26.5 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal.
