2012 19 APRIL

School conducts orientatio­n meeting for parents and students. Parents of the 7-year-old girl, who is in class 3, raise objections against increase in school fees .

23 APRIL

School issues a transfer certificat­e, claiming that it is on the request of parents. Parents refuse to accept it, saying they have paid fees in advance and will take time to get the girl admitted in a new school.

24 APRIL

The student is not allowed entry to classroom during school hours by the authoritie­s.

17 MAY

After receiving an order about the incident from the Child Welfare Committee, an FIR is registered under Section 23 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act 2000 in Dwarka Sector 23 police station.

2013 6 APRIL

Trial begins in a city court.

22 JUNE

Kavita Chandra, the then director and Romi Chawla, the then principal of Dwarka-based OPG World School, where the child was admitted and the incident took place, are summoned as accused in the case.

2017 2 JUNE

Director Kavita Chandra and principal Romi Chawla are found guilty by the court for cruelty and causing mental trauma to the girl by not allowing her to enter the classroom.

26 JULY

The court awards two-month jail term to both convicts and directs them to pay ~2.5 lakh each to the girl. The court notes that a child cannot be thrown out at the whim and fancies of the school authoritie­s.
