Man wanted in a bloody shootout in Rajasthan arrested in Delhi

NEW DELHI : A 26-year-old man wanted in a sensational shootout in Rajasthan in which two persons were killed and 14 others injured over a land dispute was arrested in a joint operation by Delhi and Rajasthan police.

The arrested man, Babloo, was caught last Wednesday from Mohan Garden near Uttam Nagar. Senior officials said the shootout took place in an agricultural field in Pichoona village in Bharatpur district on July 14.

A mob of around 65 people equipped with firearms, sharp weapons and iron rods attacked another group comprising around 20 people when they were plowing the agricultural field.

Hundreds of rounds were fired by the assailants and several persons sustained injuries while two persons were shot dead.

Bhisham Singh, deputy commissioner of police (crime), said the crime created an atmosphere of terror in the village .

A case under relevant sections was registered and several teams were formed to nab the culprits and bring them to book.

Teams of Delhi Police crime branch were deployed to look out for the culprits after it was learnt that most of the attackers were residents of Uttam Nagar. It was learnt that the group of assailants was headed by one Shiv Lal.

“One of our teams received information about Babloo. We informed Rajasthan Police about his movement in Uttam Nagar. They sent a team to Delhi and together we apprehended Babloo from Mohan Garden,” said Singh.

During interrogation, the DCP said, Babloo said he was involved in bootlegging. Babloo is a relative of Shiv Lal, Murari, Chaman Lal, Bittoo and Chumma -- all sons of Devi Singh of Vilanchatpura in Pichoona village. They live in Uttam Nagar.

“Shiv Lal’s family had a dispute over two bighas of agriculture land in their native village with Subjan Kanjar of the same village,” said Singh.

In order to take possession of the land, Babloo along with his associates, on the instructions of Shiv Lal and Murari, reached Vilanchatpura in a Scorpio, Fortuner, XUV, Breeza and other SUVs with numerous firearms and other weapons.

“They reached the field where their rivals were present. After some altercation, the accused opened fire on the rivals and started attacking them with iron rods and axes. Rambir and Chandru were shot on the spot. The attackers fled leaving behind 14 injured persons,” the DCP said adding efforts are on to nab other absconding attackers.
