JNU’s gender panel polls on September 22
NEW DELHI: Despite the university staying the process, JNU’s Gender Sensitization Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH) will conduct the students’ election to pick members for the body on September 22 .
JNU registrar Pramod Kumar in a recent communication said that the university will constitute internal complaints committee, which will replace the GSCASH to comply with UGC regulations 2015. “…any election to GSCASH hereafter called as ICC should be kept on hold till further notice,” he said.
However, on Saturday, Bhagat Singh Saini, chairperson GSCASH election committee, issued code of conduct and said the polls will be held on Friday.
“We have received a letter from the officiating chairperson Moushumi Das in which fourmember election commission has been constituted to initiate and supervise the GSCASH election. We are conducting the elections based on the letter,” said Ishita Manna, an EC member.
Das said they have not received any communication from the administration to put the GSCASH election on hold. “Even as per the constitution of GSCASH, the administration has no role in the functioning of the body,” she said. Kumar was not reachable. JNU’s Executive Council will meet on September 18 to assess a report submitted by a committee on the functioning of GSCASH and the proposal to replace it with ICC.
