Govt floats tenders to install 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Delhi public works department minister Satyendar Jain on Tuesday said that tenders have been floated to install 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras across the city. He said that installation of cameras would be completed within six months.

“It will take another two months to release the work order once the tenders are finalised and after that three to four months will be required to complete the installation process. We are eying to complete the installation of 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras by Aprilend,” Jain said.

Ahead of 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, the AAP had promised to install 15 lakh CCTV cameras across the national capital. Earlier in July, Jain had said that 2,000 CCTV cameras would be installed in each assembly constituency of Delhi.

“This is the first phase in which 1.4 lakh cameras will be installed to keep a vigil in every area of the city while remaining CCTVs will be set up in next phase soon,” the minister said.

He said that these CCTV cameras would be installed in residential and commercial areas both. Jain clarified that additional cameras, if needed, can be installed with the Members of Legislative Assembly Local Area Development Scheme (MLALAD) fund by the legislators themselves.

The safety and security of the cameras will be the responsibility of RWAs while the maintenance will be done by the company. Localised control rooms will be set up as recommended by the RWAs.
