CHANDIGARH: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday agreed to develop an elevated road link from Ashram Chowk to Badarpur and automation of tax collection at the entry point to Delhi from Gurgaon on the National Highway (NH) 48 to prevent traffic congestion.

Kejriwal gave this assurance to Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar during a joint meeting, a government spokesperson said.

Khattar suggested to his Delhi counterpart to construct an elevated road from Ashram Chowk to Badarpur to tackle traffic congestion in the area. “Kejriwal said that he will take personal interest to get these works executed on priority basis,” the Haryana government said, pointing out that Khattar also raised other long-pending issues concerning roads and water between both the governments.

Some of the issues Haryana raised included acquisition and development of 80-metre wide proposed link road in NCT Delhi to link Dwarka with the 150-metre wide Northern Peripheral Road (NPR) in Gurgaon. The completion of this road will provide an alternative route to traffic from Delhi bound for Manesar, Rewari, Jaipur and beyond on NH-8 and thus will ease congestion on NH-8.

The Khattar government also mooted the linking of MG road with Nelson Mandela T- Point Near Basant Kunj Flyover.

The other projects discussed included widening of link road between Mehrauli road near Andheria Mor in Delhi to Gurgaon-Faridabad road near Gwal Phari through Gadaipur & Mandi. This will ease traffic on MG Road within Delhi and will provide direct link to GurgaonFaridabad Road and NH-8 through Greater SPR proposed in GMUC —2031.

Non-release of ₹288 crore by Delhi Jal Board for the construction of carrier lined channel was also taken up. Haryana has been releasing water from the common pool at Tajewala to keep the Wazirabad Pond level full in compliance of the Supreme Court orders. The amount of ₹70 crore is due against Delhi Jal Board for payment of extra raw water supplied from 1997 till December 2015.
