23-yr-old held for killing law student
GAURAV CHAUDHARY ALLEGEDLY SHOT ASHISH AFTER A SCUFFLE ON NOV 10
NEWDELHI:A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly shooting dead a law student in north Delhi’s Hardev Nagar on November 10.
The accused, Gaurav Chaudhary, was held on Tuesday. He is a resident of village Jagatpur in Burari.
The crime had taken place when the victim, Ashish Bhardwaj, was with two friends. Chaudhary, who was on a bike, allegedly stopped them and asked them what they were doing in the area late in the night. An argument ensued and a scuffle broke out between them, during which the biker allegedly took out his gun and shot Bhardwaj in his neck.
“During investigation, it was learnt that Bhardwaj was out for a stroll with his friends Himanshu and Anoop. A man carrying a double-barrel gun on his shoulder interrupted them on a motorcycle. When the three asked him to mind his business, the biker started abusing them and fired a bullet that hit Bhardwaj’s neck,” said a senior police officer.
Bhardwaj’s friends rushed him to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
A case of murder was registered at the Burari police station. Bhardwaj, who hailed from West Champaran district in Bihar, was a final-year student at a private university in Gurgaon. He lived with his brother Rajnish Bhardwaj in a rented flat in Hardev Nagar.
Chaudhary was nabbed after police received information about him on November 14. “He was apprehended while he was riding a bike without number plate. The bike used in commission of the crime was seized from his possession,” said DCP (Rohini) Rishi Pal.
