Padmavati row rages on in Rajasthan

JAIPUR/ UDAIPUR/ BIKANER/BHARATPUR: The controvers­y surroundin­g movie Padmavati continued to rage on with Rajasthan politician­s and women commission expressing reservatio­n over the film and members of different outfits continuing their protests against its release.

The Rajasthan state commission for women (RSCW) has asked the censor board to “clear the confusion” over the film.

“There is a lot of confusion over the film and the ensuing protests have also resulted in a law and order challenge. I have asked the censor board to clear this confusion and clarify that there is no wrong portrayal of women in the film,” commission chairman Suman Sharma said.

The president of BJP’s state unit, Ashok Parnami, said they will not tolerate any distortion of the state’s history.

“Rajasthan has its own history comprising many brave women. If anybody tampers with Rajasthan’s history we won’t tolerate that,” he said.

Reacting to actress Deepika Padukone’s remark that the film’s release couldn’t be stopped, Lokendra Singh Kalvi, patron of Shree Rajput Karni Sena — an outfit that has been protesting against the film — said people should refrain from ‘openly challengin­g’ them. Expanding its plans for a statewide bandh on November 30, the outfit also called for a pan-India shutdown on December 1.

A group of more than 1,000 people also staged a mass protest against the film outside the Collector ate atUdaip ur on Wednesday. InBikaner, an FIR was registered against three persons for allegedly posting derogatory remarks against queen Padmavati.
