NEWDELHI: Delhi may experience a thunderstorm on Sunday night as heavy rainfall is likely in north and central India over the next three days, officials of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.

According to an official, the sky is expected to be partly cloudy during the day and will gradually become overcast. “The maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 24 and 9 degrees respectively,” he said.

On Saturday, the maximum temperature was 25.6 degrees, three notches above normal, while the minimum was 6.1 degrees, four points below normal.

The weatherman has warned that a thunderstorm accompanied by hailstorms is expected in isolated places in several north Indian states, including Punjab, Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh, over the next two days due to an approaching western disturbance. The IMD has also predicted heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

“An active western disturbance lies over central parts of Afghanistan and is most likely to move over northwest India during the next 48 hours,” the IMD said.
