Will move privilege motion against DDA, says AAP
NEWDELHI:The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said on Saturday it will move a privilege motion in Delhi Assembly against officials of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for allegedly creating controversy about its lawmakers not attending the public hearing about the proposed amendments to the Master Plan Delhi 2021.
The AAP also alleged that the land-owning agency’s proposed amendments were “a farce” without any potential to bring relief to the traders hit by the ongoing sealing drive.
“First, the DDA is misleading traders by proposing amendments that they say would end the crisis emerging due to sealing. This claim is a complete farce. Second, our 39 MLAs submitted objections to the proposals. It is unfortunate that the DDA is telling the media that our MLAs did not attend the public hearing. We gave our objections in writing. Why can’t they decide on the objections instead of asking us to be present in person?” asked AAP chief spokesperson, Saurabh Bhardwaj who was part of the representation that submitted objections on Thursday.
After receiving over 700 suggestions and objections to the proposals, the DDA started public hearing inviting suggestions and objections on Friday.
Opposition leader Vijendra Gupta had questioned why only three of the 37 AAP MLAs, who had given a representation of suggestions to the proposals, were present in the hearing on Friday.
“The reality is that we did not get any intimation of the public hearing. I will move privilege motion in the House against the DDA officials to ensure action is taken against them,” Bharadwaj said.
“The DDA which functions under Union government is spreading lies,” he said.
When contacted, DDA officials refused to comment on the AAP’s allegations.
The land-owning agency had on February 2 proposed three amendments to the Master Plan – uniform floor area ratio (FAR) for shop-cum-residential complexes, reduced penalties and regularising agricultural godowns – a decision, DDA said, which was aimed at providing relief from the crisis emerged due to the ongoing sealing drive.
Supervised by a Supreme Court-monitored committee, officials of three municipal corporations of Delhi are sealing shops and restaurants across Delhi for either not misusing residential premise for commercial purposes or for unauthorised constructions.
