THE TWO ACCUSED USED TOY GUNS TO INTIMIDATE THEIR VICTIMS BEFORE ROBBING THEM

NEWDELHI: Two men were arrested in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area for their alleged involvement in a series of thefts and burglaries across the capital, police said.

The accused, Harsh (20) and Kaptan (19), were allegedly involved in 45 cases of robbery, burglary and thefts in outer, Rohini, west and north districts of Delhi, police officials said.

Deputy commissioner of police (outer) MN Tiwari said the two accused used toy guns to intimidate their victims before robbing them on the directions of their gang leader. A total of one motorcycle, 10 cellphones, one toy gun and equipment used to break locks in houses were recovered from them. “During the interrogation, they disclosed that they worked for a notorious criminal, Deepu, who has been previously involved in more than 50 cases. The two men said that Deepu used to pay them money for the crimes so that they could live a lavish life,” said Tiwari.

Harsh and Kaptan were arrested on Sunday when the police received information that they would be coming to F-block in Mangolpuri on a motorcycle to sell stolen mobile phones. A police team was formed and a trap was laid. Around 4.20pm, the two men were seen coming from the Peeragarhi side towards Mangolpuri on a two-wheeler.

Once the raiding team signalled them to stop for checking, the two men tried to flee. However, police officials managed to nab them shortly afterwards. When they were asked to produce the documents of the motorcycle, they failed to give a satisfactory reply. The two-wheeler was later found to have been reported stolen at the Mangolpuri police station in February 2017.
