NEW DELHI : Four doctors injured in a car crash on the Yamuna Expressway are responding well to the treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences’ Trauma Centre, doctors said.

Three of their friends from the emergency medicine department at AIIMS died in the accident.

Dr Catherine Halam, who was operated on Sunday to fix both her damaged hip joints, was shifted to a ward from the intensive care unit on Monday, and her parameters were stable.

“Both her hips are injured and she has other injuries that may need her to stay in the hospital longer as compared to others. She should be able to walk but it will take some time,” said one of the doctors in the hospital who didn’t wish to be identified, as the person isn’t authorised to speak to the media.

It had taken doctors more than an hour to fix her hip joints and repair a deep gash on her face that was haphazardly stitched by local doctors near the accident site.

Among the other three injured, Jitendra Maurya has to undergo a surgery to repair is fractured wrist on Tuesday.

Abhinava Singh, who has a dislocated hip, is under observation. “There is no urgency to operate her; an MRI scan may be done in a day or two,” said the doctor.

Mahesh Kumar , who has sustained ribs fracture is the only one fit enough to be discharged. His fracture was plastered and his pain under control.

“All of them are stable,” said the doctor.
