FIVE MORE DIE IN ASSAM FLOODS; TOLL RISES TO 9
GUWAHATI: The floods in Assam claimed five more lives on Sunday, taking the total number of deaths to nine. All the casualties took place in Barak Valley region — three in Cachar and one each in Hailakandi and Karimganj districts. The number of affected districts came down to six — Karbi Anglong West, Hojai, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Karimganj and Cachar — from seven and the number of flood-submerged villages stood at 673. According to state disaster management authority, over 4.48 lakh people are affected and more than 1.73 lakh displaced are taking shelter in 481 relief camps.
