What to keep in mind when going through cutoff lists

NEW DELHI: Students will have until Thursday to get their documents verified and have their admissions confirmed at colleges where they have cleared the cutoff percentages under the first merit list.

Before this, applicants first need to ensure their best of four score is equal to or more than the cutoff percentages announced by the college for the course they want.

The best four calculation can seem daunting and confusing to many, however the university specifies certain methods to do so.

For most science courses, the cutoff is based on different combinations of physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology. For physical sciences, biology is not included, and for life sciences, mathematics is not included. For courses like food technology, all four subject scores are required.

For mathematical sciences, mathematics is compulsory, along with the scores of a language and two academic subjects from list A (given in the information bulletin) is used.

For BA (Hons) programme too, one needs to use the score of a language, the score of the subject in which one wishes to pursue the honours degree, and two academic subjects from list A. If you do not include the subject you want to pursue the honours degree in, then you face a deduction of 2.5%.

If the subjects aren’t from list A, in both cases, then a 2.5% deduction is applicable. Unlike other courses, certain colleges set a deduction off up to 5% for stream change in the case of BA programme.

Mathematics is compulsory for BCom (H) as well but not for BCom programme. The best four calculation is the same for both, that it is the aggregate of a language, and three subjects from either list C1 or C2.

For every list C2 subject used, there is a deduction of 1%, and if the subjects used does not fall in either lists, then there is a deduction of 2.5%.

Students who clear the cutoff need to head to the colleges after selecting the college and required course on the admission portal before Thursday to get their documents verified and their admission confirmed.

Students should carry a printout of the registration form, and carry original and at least two sets of self attested photocopies of the documents, like class 10 and 12 marksheets and certificates, documents proving eligibility for reserved categories, recent character certificate, among others, Amrita Bajaj, the deputy dean of students welfare, said.
