Farmer commits suicide in Karnal
KARNAL: A 37-year-old farmer committed suicide in this district on Monday, allegedly due to his poor financial condition.
According to information, Nirmal Singh of Rattak village near Assandh allegedly jumped in the village pond this morning. He is survived by a widow, three sons and a daughter.
In his police complaint, deceased’s father Daler Singh claimed that unable to bear a financial crunch, Nirmal committed suicide.
Deceased is stated to be a mar- ginal farmer with a landholding of nearly two acres at Rattak.
“Owing to unseasonal rains in April this year, his wheat crop was damaged. As he did not get any compensation by the state government, he was mentally disturbed,” Daler reportedly told the police.
Assandh station house officer (SHO) Rajbir Singh said that the report of the postmortem examination was awaited. No one has alleged foul play behind the death. Meanwhile, Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (ad hoc) president and Kisan Sangharsh Samiti (Assandh) chief Jagdish Singh Jhinda demanded a grant of ` 20 lakh for the deceased’s family.
“Besides, announcing a financial assistance immediately, the state government should bear expenses of education and healthcare of Nirmal’s children,” Jhinda told reporters.
