COIMBATORE: Akhil Rabindra plans to move up the ladder this season. The Bangalorebased driver made a point by dominating the season-opening round of the JK Racing India Series at the 18th JK Tyre Racing Championship here on Saturday.

He finished overall second last season, but this year, according to Rabindra, he has spent more time on the circuit. “Have been racing in the British Racing Drivers Club F4 series in England, and it has helped me polish my skills behind the wheel,” he said after winning the first round.

On the eve of the race, he had to overcome technical glitches in his car, but faced no issues when it mattered. “It was a good drive,” he said after emerging on top.

Besides polishing his skills, Rabindra has been devoting more time to physical fitness. “It’s a demanding event and without excellence in fitness it’s difficult to have an edge over the rivals,” he said.

Since the beginning of the season, he has been doing 90 minutes of physical training five days a week. Off the field, he does mental exercises. “When I am not racing, I do other stuff to keep mentally and physically strong,” he said.
