Mandi Gobindgarh ignored: On Nov 21, 2015, blast in a furnace led to death of 11 workers; but no arrest was made. Two similar blasts followed in Dec 2015 that injured six workers. A recent incident, on April 28, at a furnace here killed a worker and caused serious injuries to two.
Money for deaths: In September 2010, five workers had died when a rice-treatment plant collapsed at Khamano in Ludhiana. Owner was faced penalty of Rs 50,000, besides compensation of Rs 2 lakh each.
Mohali so near, yet so far: In June 2003, six of the staff died of burns at Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals in Mohali (SAS Nagar) industrial area that had caught the country’s attention. But it failed to move any policies in the next-door city of Chandigarh, the seat of power.
