Marital discord: Man throws acid on wife in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: A Malerkotla man threw acid on his wife at village Valipur here on Monday following which the woman suffered severe burn injuries and had to be rushed to the PGI in Chandigarh.

The couple was having a strained relationship and staying separately, said police. The Ladhowal police registered a case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused identified as Harvinder Singh.

Darshan Singh, victim’s father, said his daughter was married to Harvinder, a mason, around 15 years ago. They have one son and two daughters from the marriage. xDarshan alleged that Harvinder was a drunkard and used to beat up his wife following which she started living separately. HTC
