PONY HAVILDAR

There is no ranking system for animals in the ITBP. An exception was a pony named Pavan who was given the rank of Havildar in 1968. Pavan was posted in Leh when he got lost and was captured by the Chinese army who tried to make him work for them in the area of transportation. But Pavan, loaded with material, ran for over 40km to come back to the Indian border outpost, showing exemplary loyalty and courage.
