7 of family hurt as Pak shells border villages

JAMMU: At least seven members of a family—all women and girls were among nine injured, some of them critically, as Pakistan rained mortars and opened automatic weapons’ fire on Indian posts and villages along the Internatio­nal Border in RS Pura sector of Jammu district and on the Line of Control in Naushera sector of Rajouri district on Tuesday.

However, Jammu deputy commission­er Simrandeep Singh said that six members of a family suffered shrapnel injuries when a mortar exploded in their house in Suchetgarh village in RS Pura sector this afternoon.

A man identified as Ramesh Kumar of Suchetgarh village and a woman Baljeet Kaur (45) of Chanduchak village were injured in fresh shelling that started late this evening.

BSF Jammu frontier DIG, Dharmender Pareekh said, “Firing is on at two to three border posts of BSF in RS Pura sector. Pakistan is also firing mortars. Few civilians have been injured in Suchetgarh village”.

Following fresh skirmishes this evening, around dozen villages on the border in RS Pura sector were vacated by the panicky villagers, who have now taken refuge in relief camps set up at government middle school, government higher secondary school, Bana Singh Stadium, ITI College, Rangpur Maulania and Langrial, said a local.

Similarly, Pak army opened unprovoked fire in Naushera sector of Rajouri district.
