Man sacked 7 yrs after death: HC summons DC

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court has summoned the district collector of Tarn Taran on December 2 to present all relevant documents and legal opinion taken to dismiss a revenue official from service seven years after his death over a corruption case.

Patwari Avtar Singh, who died in May 2007, had been suspended in 1998 after a corruption case was registered against him; but he was reinstated the following year. Thereafter, an Amritsar court sentenced him to two-year jail, and then the HC suspended the sentence upon appeal. In the meantime, he died. In June 2014, the collector dismissed the deceased employee again.
