15-YEAR-OLD KILLS SELF, KIN SAY COP’S SON HARASSED HER

KARNAL: High drama was witnessed outside the residence of Karnal municipal corporation mayor as family members of a 15-year-old girl, who allegedly committed suicide on Sunday, alleged police inaction to nab the accused.

Staging a protest, the family members blamed son of a cop, alleging that he harassed the girl. The parents of the girl, accompanied by relatives took the body to the residence of mayor Renu Bala Gupta and said they will not cremate the body till the police arrest the accused. Following this, the mayor called Karnal superintendent of police Pankaj Nain and asked him to book the accused.

After high drama, the family members agreed to cremate the body as police booked the accused for attempt to murder and assured that the accused will be soon arrested.

As per sources, the girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan. The family members alleged that she was being harassed by the accused Rahul Kumar (21).

After the father of the accused, sub-inspector Dharampal, was transferred, the family shifted their residence. However, the family members allege that the accused used to come to their locality and harass the deceased.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Karnal city police station in-charge Mohan Lal said, “The youth has been booked under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (abetment of suicide) and investigation was going on to arrest him.”
