Congress protests note ban, takes out rally
NEW DELHI: Upping the ante against the BJP government at the Centre, Congress workers on Saturday protested against the ‘faulty implementation’ of demonetisation of high-value currency notes of `500 and `1,000.
The protest march from Jantar Mantar to the Parliament, led by Delhi Congress chief, was also organised to seek reply about allegations of corruption levelled by party vice-president Rahul Gandhi against Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a rally in Gujarat last week.
The Congress has alleged that lakhs of people in unorganised sector have been rendered jobless due to demonetsiation.
“Due to the faulty implementation of demonetisation, and in the name of nationalism, the whole country is lined up in front of banks and ATMs. This decision has taken the country back by 20 years,” Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken said, while addressing the gathering, which included migrants from hill states and south India.
Other prominent leaders who attended the protest included former MPs Mahabal Mishra and Ramesh Kumar, party spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee, Narender Nath, Hari Shankar Gupta among others.
