DOCTOR JUMPS BEFORE TRAIN IN GURGAON, SUFFERS FRACTURES

A 27-year-old woman doctor jumped before a train at Guru Dronachary­a Metro Station on Monday morning in an alleged bid to end her life. She suffered fractures in her feet and minor injuries on her face and hand.

A 27-year old doctor, working with a private insurance company in Delhi, jumped before a train at Guru Dronachary­a Metro station on Monday morning.

She survived with fracture in her feet and minor injuries to her face and hands.

The incident took place at 7:15 am. Train services were disrupted for about 10 minutes during the rescue operation, said a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) spokespers­on.

According to the police, the CISF staff did not find a suicide note. The victim was rushed to a private hospital and was unconsciou­s. She lives in DLF Phase-3 and was going to her office when the incident occurred.

“We visited the hospital but the victim was not fit to record her statement. Her brother came to the Metro police station and denied that she was trying to commit suicide. He said she was in good mood when she left home”, said assistant sub inspector Devi Charan, SHO Metro station.

Officials also initially denied that it was a suicide attempt but later the CCTV footage showed that the doctor jumped on the track when the train towards Samaipur Badli was moving in.

A police officer said the the CCTV footage has been obtained and the police are waiting for the woman’s statement, before a formal case is filed in the matter.

“We will register a case once her statement is recorded,” said Charan.

CISF personnel regularly monitor platforms to check suicide attempts and walking on tracks. As many as 88 people tried to commit suicide and 350 people were booked for walking on the tracks at Metro stations across NCR in 2016.

A Delhi Metro official said the DMRC will install PSDs for efficient crowd management at select stations. Later, it might be replicated at other stations based on the success of the pilot project.
