Mercury several notches above normal in Punjab, Haryana

: Even as the mercury rose to above normal over the past week in the northern region, it will come down by a couple of notches in the next two days, yet weather will remain dry across the region. The weatherman has ruled out the possibilit­y of rain in the near future.

As per officials, the temperatur­e (both minimum and maximum) will witness a dip by two notches during the next 48 hours. Following this, the temperatur­e will again start rising by one or two notches.

On Monday, Narnaul in Haryana was the hottest in the region, as temperatur­es were 8-9 degrees Celsius above normal. The maximum was at 33, eight degrees above normal. The previous night was warm at 17 degrees, which was nine above normal.

Temperatur­e in most parts of Punjab was 4-5 notches above normal. For instance, the maximum temperatur­e in Patiala was 27.6 degrees, which was five above normal.

In Chandigarh, the maximum temperatur­e recorded on Monday was 28.7 degrees, five points above normal. The city witnessed drizzling on Monday, but it could not lead to any big dip in temperatur­e. The daytime temperatur­e was two degrees more than Sunday’s.
