COUNCIL OBJECTS TO STAFF CRUNCH AT AMRITSAR COLLEGE

AMRITSAR The Medical Council of India (MCI) has raised 10 objections to Government Medical College, Amritsar, including that of staff shortage. The inspection was conducted regarding 50 additional seats given to institute.

Dr BS Bal, the principal, said, “I will be going to New Delhi on the 22nd of this month to respond to the 10 objections.”

“The team has shown 11.4% of staff shortage. The staff is less due to process of departmental promotion. Recruitment for new posts was also stopped due to imposition of the poll code of conduct. I am sure this can be improved.”

A four-member team led by Dr BB Murhar had visited various parts of the college in October and objected to the non-computerised outpatient department (OPD) and the cramped lecture rooms too.

The MCI inspections are to be carried out for the next three years to observe functioning for the additional 50 MBBS seats.

The MCI is also empowered to cancel these 50 seats if the college fails to meet the set standards. HTC
