Modi is making communal statements: Vrinda

Party of India (Marxist) politburo member Brinda Karat has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to mislead people on communal lines during his campaign for Uttar Pradesh (UP) assembly elections.

She referred to Modi’s statement made at a public rally in UP on Sunday wherein he asserted that if a ‘qabristan’ (cemetery) can be constructed in a village, a shamshaan (cremation ground) should also be built.

Karat said, “The statement of PM Modi was highly condemnable. He is making such statements to mislead people on religious lines” She said the PM was worried about the imminent defeat of the BJP in UP and that he was making such statements for electoral benefits.

She also slammed the PM for demonetisation of ₹1,000 and ₹500 notes and said people would teach his party a lesson in the UP elections. HTC
