PUNE: It’s quite common to see a batsman walk back sluggishly to the dressing room, usually dejected after being dismissed off a poor shot or a gem of a delivery. But on Thursday, the 7,504 people who had made their way to the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, witnessed something completely different. It was the 28th over of the Australian innings and right after Warner was dismissed by Umesh Yadav in his first over of the day, Matt Renshaw was seen sprinting back to the dressing room after ‘retiring ill’. It later surfaced that he had an upset stomach. At the media interaction after close of play, the

RENSHAW ADDED HE SPOKE TO STEVE SMITH LATER IN THE LUNCH BREAK TO SORT OUT THE CONFUSION.

21-year-old admitted that even though he wanted to run back for quite some time, it was only after Warner’s dismissal that he couldn’t wait any longer.

“It came pretty suddenly… probably about five or ten minutes before Davey (David Warner) got out. I asked Richard (Kettleborough, the umpire) how long was it before lunch and he told me it was still around halfan-hour. It wasn’t an ideal situation to be in. I didn’t know whether it was retired out or retired ill so I had to ensure I knew that bit first,” he said .

Renshaw, who scored a fine knock of 68 to help Australia reach 256/9 at the end of the day, further added that he had spoken to his captain Steve Smith later in the lunch break to sort out the confusion.

“He wasn’t particularly thrilled about it but he under stands that when you need to go to the toilet, you have to go to the toi let. It wasn’t an ideal scenario so that (the break) was life, pretty much,” he said.

Renshaw however came ou after the fall of the third wicket and paced his innings well before being dismissed by Ravichan dran Ashwin. “I knew I could be letting the team down and hence wanted to go out there and do my bit and just make sure that we had a pretty good day,” he said.

“I’ve never seen such a pitch like that so I went in with a pretty open mind and tried to do what I normally do in Australia, which is to bat as long as possible and try and wear down the bowlers.”

Renshaw added that he was particularly happy to have played well against the spin duo of Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja
