Refused entry, Jat protesters on tractors squabble with Delhi Police
BAHADURGARH: The Delhi Police on Thursday did not allow tractor-trolleys to enter the capital, sending Jat protesters coming all the way from Rohtak, Jind and adjoining districts back without taking part in the ‘big demonstration’.
Wanting to take part in the protest at Jantar Mantar, thousands of Jat protesters stuffed inside buses, tractors, jeeps, trucks, cars and other vehicles rushed to Delhi, dancing on rooftops while raising pro-quota slogans. Two lines of the toll-plaza near Sampla village were left open for protesters.
However, while people on commercial vehicles were given entry to Delhi, those coming on tractor-trolleys were stopped at Tikri Border by Delhi Police.
Angry protesters indulged in arguments with the police, while some even drove their tractors over barricades to get entry. However, the police said all of them were eventually stopped from entering the capital.
“There were some who tried to get entry forcefully. But, they were sent back from Nangloi,” Mundka station house officer (SHO)RamavtarKalonia said.
