Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday said as per the 2014 notification of the Haryana government, it was his right to use red beacon. Transport minister Krishan Lal Panwar had recently raised the issue in the state Assembly.

Addressing a press conference at his residence here, Hooda said, “I can use it as long as the notification exists. If they don’t want me to use it, they can change the notification. The transport minister should know that his own department had issued the notification.”

Distancing himself from the assembly gherao call given by Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president, Ashok Tanwar, Hooda said he was not aware of any such plan of the Congress.

Attacking the BJP government, Tanwar had said that party leaders and MLAs have planned to gherao the Assembly on issues of SYL and corruption on March 7.

Responding to queries on the widening rift between him and Tawar, Hooda said it was an internal matter of the party and that they will resolve it with dialogue. He also spoke on the demand raised by MLAs loyal to him that Tanwar be replaced from the post of president of HPCC, failing which the will resign. Hooda said, they had asked for the withdrawal of a false case against him and requested to meet the high command against those who staged the conspiracy. “It is their democratic right to do so,” he said.

Recently congress workers loyal to Tanwar had also burnt effigies of Hooda in his hometown Rohtak. Making an indirect reference to it, Hooda said his life expectancy increases every time someone burns his effigy. He cited the example of Krishan Murti Hooda, now his loyalist, and said when they was in different parties, they often burnt his effigies but today they are sitting together. “All those burning my effigies now will be sitting besides me in future,” he said.
