Rottweiler mauls 9yrold Manesar girl, FIR lodged against owner

GURGAON: A nine-year-old girl suffered serious injuries to the stomach and her large intestine was severed when a neighbour’s Rottweiler attacked her in Manesar, police said on Friday. The girl also sustained injuries in the back and one of her ribs was fractured. The incident occurred at Baghanki village in Manesar, 55km from Gurgaon, on February 25 and police lodged an FIR on Tuesday after a complaint against the dog’s owner by Vikram Yadav, victim’s father.

The injuries were serious and the girl had to be operated upon. “There was a perforation in the large intestine and also loss of muscle and skin from the abdominal wall. Repair of the intestine perforation was done and dead and necrotic tissue from abdomen was removed. Another surgery is being planned to cover the skin loss over the abdomen,” said Dr Suresh Chhabra, senior consultant surgeon, VPS Rockland Hospital, Manesar.

Vikram, who runs a dhaba in Panchgaon, said his daughter was playing in their residential compound when the dog caught hold of her through loose wires of a fence. He said ~1.25 lakh had been incurred on medical expenses and the girl was still in hospital. “We pleaded with the dog owner to bear the medical expenses but he refused, after which we filed the police complaint,” he said.

Rajesh Yadav, younger brother of the dog owner, Rakesh Yadav, a farmer, said the charges were false. He said the family was offered initial financial assistance of ~60,000 but they refused and demanded more money. He alleged the girl along with her grandmother had come to pick vegetables from their kitchen garden. Rakesh Yadav has been booked under Sections 289 (negligent conduct with respect to an animal) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC.
