JAMMU : An order issued by the People’s Democratic PartyBharatiya Janata Party government pertaining to the registration of fresh Kashmiri migrants, ‘who have migrated or may migrate from Kashmir due to threat to them from the militants’ has stirred a hornet’s nest.

Intelligentsia in the winter capital see it as ‘sinister’ attempt to change the demography of Jammu.

Mahesh Kaul, a research scholar and a prominent face of Kashmiri pandits, said, “Registration of Kashmiri pandits started in 1990s when we had to flee Valley because of terrorism and selective killings. How come the present government thought of it again at a time when there is no significant population of Kashmiri pandits left in the Valley?”

Kaul chipped in with another observation vis-à-vis government order.

“Government is trying to rehabilitate Kashmiri pandits back to the Valley under Prime Minister’s job package and at the same time, it has come out with the order to start fresh registration of Kashmiri migrants due to militancy threats. Now, can it be taken as an indicator of the security scenario in Kashmir or a move aimed at ulterior motives?” he said.

Kaul felt that in the backdrop of settling illegal immigrants in Jammu, the government order was a part of a conspiracy. “What was the need of it now? I definitely see it as a faulty process with mala fide intentions behind it,” he said.

When reminded that Bharatiya Janata Party is in the government, he rued and said, “An utter failure, Bharatiya Janata Party is acting like ‘B’ team of the Congress.” The clandestinely issued order surfaced in the public domain a month ago.
