Harassed by goons, girls refuse to go to school
Over 12 girl students of Meerganj area in Bareilly refused to go to school after miscreants allegedly harassed them on the way . Police have arrested two accused and initiated investigation into the matter. Police constables have also been deployed on the route to school to ensure their safety.
“A few girls of Labhera and Rampura villages have complained about harassment. Police have registered their complaint and are investigating the matter,” said sub divisional magistrate (SDM) of Meerganj Archana Dwivedi.
“I have also asked the local police to deploy constables on the route to ensure safety of the girls,” she added.
Girls from Labhera, Rampura and nearby villages are enrolled in the government high school in Meerganj. The institution is about five kilometre from the villages. The girls are reportedly harassed by miscreants of Abdullahpur and other villages which fall en route to their school. “The miscreants pass lewd comments and hurl abuses when our girls go to school,” said Dayashankar Singh, resident of Rampura village. His 15-year-old daughter is one of the girls who have discontinued studies .
“My daughter and other girls of the village have not gone to school since Thursday,” Singh added.
The girls quit studies after two miscreants allegedly harassed and manhandled a 16-year-old girl when she was going to school on Monday.
The incident occurred near Abdullahpur village. A police complaint was registered against the accused on Tuesday and they were sent to prison in judicial custody.
