Mother, two brothers among 11 booked for honour killing

an apparent honour killing of a 28-year-old married woman at Tungwali village, police have booked her two brothers, mother and eight other villagers for murder.

The body of Beant Kaur, 28, bearing injury marks of sharp weapons, was found along the railway track near Gulabgarh village on Thursday evening, hours after she allegedly was forcibly taken away by the accused in a car from the house of Lakhvir Singh, a resident of the same village.

police booked victim’s brothers Bittu and Seera, mother Baljit Kaur, Nakha, Sewak, Maya, Tapi and four unidentified villagers. The complainant said they abducted Beant from his house and bundled her into a car on Thursday and hours later her blood-soaked body was found.

Nathana station house officer sub-inspector Sunil Kumar said the woman was married in Gobindpura village, but due to some issues with husband, she was living at her parents’ house in Tungwali. “After having a conflict with her parents about 15 days ago, Beant moved to the house of Lakhvir Singh, which was objected to by her brothers and other villagers,” he said.

The SHO said police were yet to ascertain whether or not Beant and Lakhvir were having an affair. However, Bhucho police post in-charge Bhupinder Singh said prima facie it was a honour killing as villagers say Lakhvir was Beant’s paramour. Police were searching for the accused.
