JALANDHAR: Two days after a woman sub-inspector was killed in a road accident here, a 35-yearold constable of the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) was run over by a speeding mini truck at a checkpoint on the national highway here on Monday morning.

The incident comes a day after chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh ordered crackdown on speeding and other traffic violations in the state.

The mini truck driver, Daleep Sahni of Ludhiana, was in an inebriated condition at the time of the accident, said Pragpur police station in-charge Paramjeet Singh. He was speeding and rammed his vehicle into the barricades before running over the constable and injuring two others, he said.

The driver was arrested on the spot and booked for murder and rash driving.
