2 YOUTHS WERE SHOT AT A KINNOW WAXING PLANT BELONGING TO A CLOSE AIDE OF ABHAY CHAUTALA ON JAN 11

CHANDIGARH: Anguished over the failure of the Sirsa police in solving a double murder case for over three months, residents of Chautala, the native village of leader of Opposition Abhay Chautala, have threatened to hold a demonstration before chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar during his visit to Sirsa on April 8 and 9.

On January 11, two youths, Amit Saharan and Satbir Poonia, both in their 30s and active workers of Indian National Lok Dal, (INLD) were shot dead by unknown miscreants at a kinnow waxing plant owned by Pardeep Godara, a close aide of Abhay Chautala.

Sirsa superintendent of police Satender Gupta, however, said the special investigation team (SIT) which was formed to crack the case has arrested five accused and has launched a hunt for the main accused Chhotu Bhaat.

The villagers, on the other hand, on Wednesday began their symbolic three-day protest against the police by not sending their children to schools.

Stating that the villagers have also held demonstrations against the local police and even gheraoed the Chautala village police station to lodge their protest, area Congress leader KV Singh, said it is a signal to the state government in a peaceful manner that they were not satisfied with the police investigation so far.

Local BJP leader Aditya Chautala, who is also a zila parishad member, demanded an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and said the police failure to arrest the double murder in the case was shocking and the villagers were writhing under anguish.

Ravinder Poonia, brother of deceased Satbir, told HT that the entire village was not satisfied with the way the police was investigating the case. “We want the guilty to be caught and punished. The main accused had so far not been nabbed,” he said .
