JAMMU : Vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway remained suspended for some hours on Wednesday due to landslides and shooting stones at many stretches. However, by late afternoon the road was cleared for one-way traffic from Jammu towards Srinagar.

The landslides were triggered following continuous rainfall through Tuesday night and Wednesday. The highway was blocked at Marog, Panthyal, Rathan was, Gangroo and Hingini.

Meanwhile, the link road between Doda and Kishtwar was also blocked due to fresh landslides at Kuligad and Drabshalla. Three lives were lost and seven others injured when they got trapped in a rockslide at the same location on Monday.

Due to poor road condition following a number of landslides in the last few months, vehicular traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar highway has been plying in a unidirectional way. Vehicles plying from Jammu to Srinagar and Srinagar to Jammu are allowed to move on alternate days.

On Wednesday, at about 2 pm once the road was cleared, vehicles headed to Srinagar from Jammu were allowed to move in a controlled manner.

Meanwhile, the MeT department in an advisory issued on Tuesday had predicted erratic weather conditions for the next two days. The department had said that the Western Disturbance that hit J&K on Tuesday afternoon will remain active till Friday. The weatherman has predicted light to moderate rainfall over most places across J&K in the next 24 hours.
