NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old drunk businessman allegedly created a ruckus and beat up his driver and a policeman outside Shangri La hotel.

A mobile phone video shows the businessman — Nishid Gupta — who was later taken to RML hospital for a medical examination, lying shirtless on the ground. The incident took place in the early on Saturday.

A case against Gupta was later registered at North Avenue police station.

“The businessman had reportedly gone to Shangri La hotel for a party and after the bar was shut down, he insisted that alcohol still be served.

He reportedly had an argument with the bartenders following which he was asked to leave. He came out of the hotel, angry, and picked up a fight with the drivers in the valet parking,” a senior police officer said.

Police said Gupta then called his driver and assaulted him. “He allegedly kicked his driver in his private parts. The driver collapsed on the ground. Meanwhile, others in the valet service had alerted the police,” a police officer said.

At the hospital, the businessman allegedly picked up an argument with a policeman. “He removed his shirt and sat on the ground. When he was asked to get the examination done, he refused and started abusing the policeman. He punched the policeman,” a police officer said.

In the phone video, Gupta could be seen alleging that the policeman beat him up and that he would move the court to seek action against him.

A case of obstructing public servant on duty has been registered at North Avenue police station. The police will also record the statement of Gupta’s driver and others in the hotel’s valet parking.
