5-yr-old crushed to death by van in Gurgaon

GURGAON: A five-year-old school girl was crushed to death by a pick-up van on Saturday while she was waiting for an autoricksh­aw on a Sector 45 road in Guragon. Sapna, a student of class 1 at Maharishi Dayanand Model Primary School, used to travel to school in South City 1 with her brother Saurav, the police said.

The five-year-old was waiting for an auto along with her father and brother around 8am when she accidental­ly came under the wheels of the van and was crushed to death.

Though her family took her to the civil hospital, the doctors declared her brought dead, police said. The victim’s father, Shyambul Dev Sinha, is a native of West Dinajpur in West Bengal and has been living in a rented accommodat­ion in Kanhai village. Shyambul is a gardener and his wife has been working as a maid in the city for the last four years.

Police said the speeding van,, lost control and hit the child and dragged her for over 50 metres before the driver realised what had happened. The van has been seized by the police and is currently stationed at the Sector 40 police station.

The van driver fled the spot after the accident, the police said.

According to preliminar­y investigat­ion, the van driver was at fault, the police said. A case has been lodged at Sector 40 police station under sections 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) of the IPC.
