NAINITAL: Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat announced a ₹400 crore Ring Road project in Haldwani to ease traffic congestion and to allow vehicles move in the outer areas without entering the city.

Work would start soon on this ambitious project, Rawat, who was in Nainital to attend the BJP state working committee meeting, said.

Considering the worsening traffic condition in Nainital city, Rawat said, his government would build a multi-storey parking for 800 vehicles in Nainital. Talks were on with the forest department for transfer of land for this purpose, he added..

Rawat expressed concern over depleting water of the Nainital lake, and said a team of scientists from National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) would visit the lake to study and devise a solution.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi might be present during the re-opening of the portals of the Kedarnath Temple (one of the four Chardhams in Uttarakhand) , he said.

The CM said a substance that contained traces of urea was mixed in the milk at present by cooperative federations, which was being discontinued. Instead, a herbal alternative ‘Magna’ developed by a scientist from Pantnagar University would be mixed in the milk, he said.

From May 1, a subsidy of ₹50 per quintal would be available on cattle feed benefiting 1.55 lakh farmers.

Uttarakhand has ₹150 crore worth of pine resin dumped in godowns. The government has fixed the auction price at ₹37 per litre, he said.

The chief minister said medical staff and students would be made to fill a bond saying that they would serve in the remote and hill areas for at least 5 years.

‘TAKE ACTION AGAINST DREADED CRIMINALS’

In Dehradun, Rawat directed the police to strictly deal with history sheeters and dreaded criminals, and asked them to stop criminal activities inside prisons.

“There will be no compromise on the law and order situation and all possible steps should be taken to prevent history sheeters and dreaded criminals from carrying out their activities from prisons,” he said, while reviewing the work of the home department at a meeting on Friday. Rawat warned that jail authorities would be held responsible if they failed to stop criminal activities inside the prisons.

He also directed the police to strictly deal with dreaded criminals and history sheeters.

“We should ensure that Uttarakhand is not reduced to a sanctuary for criminals from outside the state,” Rawat said.

He directed Director General of Police (DGP) MA Ganpathy to initiate “all possible steps” in that connection.

The chief minister ordered officials to ensure that night vision devices “are available” to carry out rescue and relief operations during or after natural disasters

Rawat also emphasised on the need for “procuring” sufficient number of satellite phone sets as well as boosting connectivity in remote areas.

The police were told to “make foolproof arrangements” for the Chardham Yatra and the Kanwar Mela.
