At least 12 persons, including a pregnant woman, were rescued by the fire-fighters with help of some locals by breaking a wall of the factory.

The deceased have been identified as 45 year-old Maan Bahadur, his19 year-old son Kishan and 8 year-old granddaughter Babita. The family hails from Nepal.

Bahadur’s wife Seema, who has suffered burn injuries, is undergoing treatment at the civil hospital.

Fire officer Rajinder Sharma said the fire broke out around 12:30 am. There was no emergency exit at the godown. As many as 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. “We came to know that four people were sleeping on the first floor of the building. As there was no other way to reach the first floor, firefighters installed a ladder to rescue the trapped persons. The four were immediately rushed to the civil hospital where three of them were declared brought dead,” said Sharma.

“The three died due to smoke inhalation,” he added. “It is suspected that the fire broke out due to a short-circuit,” said Sunil Jain, owner of the factory.
