An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) with Sonepat police committed suicide by shooting himself at Murthal police station on Wednesday. The deceased, identified as Virender Rose, a resident of Rohtak, posted his suicide note on his FB page.

ROHTAK: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) with Sonepat police committed suicide by hanging and shooting himself at Murthal police station in the wee hours of Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Virender Rose, a resident of Rohtak.

The police said Virender first tried to hang himself from a ceiling fan but when he failed, he shot himself with his service gun. The cops present at the police station found him hanging with a gunshot on his chest later in the morning, saying they took the sound of gunshot as a tyre burst on GT Road and that is why did not bother to check earlier.

Before killing himself, Virender wrote a suicide note on his Facebook wall, in which he stated several things, including “not getting justice from Sonepat SP Ashwin Shenvi”, as the reason for why “he could not be alive anymore.”

SP Shenvi said Virender was recently transferred to police lines and a departmental inquiry against him was initiated on a complaint they had received against him. The case allegedly dates back to earlier this month when Virender had reportedly registered a case against the brother of a former councillor of ward 7 Vimal Kishore, for which Kishore had complained against him to the SP. In his suicide note, written in a broken english language, Virender stated that he tried to explain all facts to SP Shenvi, but did not get any justice, which hurt his dignity. He also blamed the former councillor, Kishore, and another man Rahul for harassment.

“There is no reason as such. Based on his note, we have registered a case of abetment against the two people named in his note. Rest all is a matter of investigation,” Shenvi said.
