CONG SEEKS LG APPROVAL TO FILE GRAFT CASE AGAINST CM

-

NEW DELHI: A delegation of 37 former Congress MLAs, led by state unit chief Ajay Maken, met L-G Anil Baijal on Thursday to seek sanction for the prosecution of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for ‘misuse of his official position’ on the basis of the Shunglu Committee report.

“We asked the L-G to grant his approval so that the Delhi Congress Committee could go the court and register a case against Kejriwal under the prevention of Corruption Act. We are seeking approval on the basis of Shunglu Committee report,” he said.

As per the Act, to lodge a case against a public servant, a formal sanction is required from the President through the L-G.

The Congress leader also criticised the Centre and Kejriwal for not appointing a Lokpal in Delhi. “Kejriwal had promised that he would appoint the Lokpal within a month if his party comes to power. Had the Centre or Delhi government launched Lokpal, justice would have been served...,” he said.

Maken, referring to the Shunglu report, said that “Kejriwal is liable to be prosecuted and punished for various acts of corruption wherein he misused his official position as the CM to extend illegal and valuable benefits to AAP, its volunteers and thereby denying the general public of Delhi an opportunity to apply for government jobs.”HTC
