16yrold commits suicide, kin accuse youth of molestation bid

KARNAL: A 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide in Kurad village of Panipat district. The girl’s family members alleged that she took the extreme step following a molestation attempt by a youth of her village.

According to the police, the girl’s family members alleged that a 19-year-old youth identified as Mohit Kumar entered her house on Wednesday night and tried to molest her.

Hearing her screams, the girl’s grandmother woke up after which the accused fled from the spot.

A few hours later, the consumed a poisonous substance, family members claimed. Though she was taken to a hospital, she died during treatment on Thursday.

On the complaint of the deceased’s father, the police have booked the youth under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
