US earmarks $800 million to Pak for antiterror support
WASHINGTON: The US is earmarking $800 million in reimbursements to Pakistan for its support to coalition forces combating terrorism in the region, which is $100 million less than the amount set aside for 2016.
This is not money that Pakistan will get for sure, because payments under this head are consequent upon Islamabad’s counter-terrorism efforts, especially in rolling back the Haqqani network that is based in Pakistan and operates in Afghanistan. Of the $900 mn earmarked in 2016, Pakistan received only $550 mn, in March 2017; the rest was not paid. HTC
