Security beefed up along border

Search operation carried out in Pathankot and Gurdaspur villages

PATHANKOT: Following the recovery of army combat dresses in a wheat bag near the Pathankot Army Base on Sunday evening, the security was beefed up here.

A battery of top police officials conducted patrolling of Internatio­nal Borders of Gurdaspur and Pathankot on Monday early morning.

Owing to the regular suspicious seizers and alerts issued by intelligen­ce and J&K based security agencies, Punjab Police have increased its strength in the border villages.

As per informatio­n four customised Armoured Personal Carriers(APC) have been purchased from PAP Jalandhar whereas additional 300 police personals have been deployed in across Pathankot and Gurdaspur border villages.

As per informatio­n the police is investigat­ing the bag containing army combat dresses. The dresses bear the mark of Jammu while they were made in army authorized units of Shahjahan- pur and Kanpur, as per the tags on them. IG(border) Naunihal Singh, DIG AK Mittal, Pathankot SSP Vivek Sheel Soni, Gurdaspur SSP BS Virk and Batala SSP Deepak Hilori led the police forces during the visit to the front posts of Border Security Force (BSF) and take stock of the situation.

SSP Soni claimed that tight security was being maintained on borders and the movements of the vehicles and the rail link entering from J&K were being checked minutely. As per officials an additional 17 posts have been set up in Gurdaspur border villages while more could be set up if needed.

After the militants attacked Dinanagar police station and India’s premier air base at Pathankot the security agencies here are not leaving any stone unturned.

Many eye brows were raised when suddenly Punjab Police intensifie­d their activities on the second line of defence along the border in the Gurdaspur on Monday.

SSP BS Virk said, “It was only a routine practice.” Meanwhile a joint operation by the army and the police was witnessed by the border residents of Dorangla and Kalanaur areas in Gurdaspur. Few days ago the BSF and the police had recovered 7.8 kg heroin buried in a border field under Dorangla police station.
